Is it ok to give my dog a pizzle every day?
Although pizzles are a much loved chew that your dog loves, we recommend only giving your dog a pizzle 2-3 times a week as they are high in calories. Don’t forget treats should only take up no more than 10% of their daily caloric intake, so make sure you adjust their meals accordingly.
Is it ok if my dog eats small pieces of the Pizzle?
The short answer is yes! Due to pizzles being a single source protein and highly digestible it is safe for dogs to eat small pieces of the pizzle. That being said, you should make sure your dog is supervised and make sure they have a supply of fresh water at all times. Some dogs like to gulp the last remaining parts of a treat so if you think your dog may do the same make sure you take it off them beforehand.
What is the difference between Pizzles and Bully sticks?
Well the answer is there isn't a difference they are both exactly the same. It's just some manufacturers call them Pizzles, Bully sticks, Bull’s Penis, the list goes on!
How are Pizzles made?
Well it all depends on each seller and how they are sourced as they are all different, but this is how ours are made?
- Firstly they are cleaned and sorted in a refrigerated room to ensure safety of the product.
- The Pizzles are then hung vertically on hooks suspended from the ceiling and air dried over time. As the Pizzle hangs all the moisture comes out of the Pizzle, allowing the odour to reduce but keeps all the natural goodness locked in!
- After they have been left to air dry in a sterile and safe environment they are ready to be cut. They are then cut to 15 cm pieces.
How do I store the Pizzles?
Pizzles have a shelf life of up to 18 months (I'm sure once your dogs get the whiff you have them in the house they will not be around that long!). However, keeping them in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight is the best way to store them. Some people like to keep them in an airtight container or just in your dog's treat box.
If your dog hasn't finished their pizzle within the first sitting, simply let it dry and return it back to your chosen storage container. It's as simple as that, no extra steps!
How long do Pizzles last for?
Pizzles last for a very long time in fact up to 2 years once they have been produced. We make sure we have a quick turnover on our end to make sure you have them with at least 18 months left.
In terms of how long it will last your dog, it completely depends on how powerful they chew and the breed of dog. Please make sure your dog has the correct size for their breed so that you get your money's worth.
